If your daughter, admittedly, is a "lower level" travel player and you are worried she isn't good enough to make a team, why do you want to do it? This is an honest question. Why not let her play rec and enjoy herself with players of a similar skill level? She will get to play, have fun and she (you) will not have to worry about being "cut." From the very little information you have provided, to me, it seems like a "you" desire. It doesn't appear she is doing it because her friends are doing it. Because you are club shopping and not asking about a specific club that she, and all her friends, are interested in joining I don't get the sense she is fussed as to whether she plays rec or travel. Do rec. Let her play, develop an interest in the game and hopefully get better. She's still young enough she can tryout in a year or two. You will just have to wait a bit longer to tell your friends your daughter plays for McLean or Arlington travel.
Rec in VA for girls at younger ages takes all the joy out of soccer. Half the girls have zero interest in being there. With a lower level travel team you at least have commitment.
yes! rec filled with girls who don't want to be there is so frustrating. she love her lower level team. she loves practicing 3 days per week. she loves all of the games and the tournaments. she isn't as fast as others yet, but that doesn't mean it is a "me" desire. she has great foot skills, but is slower. i am wondering if upper level spots will open or if upper level players will change clubs to avoid traveling to nc and pa? a lower level team is fine as she loves it. we don't need a d1 college scholarship and she can still play travel because she loves it. travel lets her play more than rec which is what she wants. and maybe she will grow and get faster and advance. its up to her what she wants to do.
Well thought out.
