The vast majority of magnet kids come from higher SES households. The whole point of the lottery was to shift that dynamic and get more poor kids who might not have the assistance or resources to be competitive. Nope, not at all. Nice try though. 
It was never monopolize by "the affluent areas", in fact "affluent areas " people used to claim discrimination against them. 
TPMS got 25 set-aside seats to keep the program there when the school threatened not to host the program. [/quote]
