This is why I steer my kid away from team sports, and toward individual sports. My oldest and middle DS are into tennis and swimming, respectively. They make the team based on their own individual performance, and not arbitrarily by coaches. My youngest is into soccer, and he is always afraid of getting cut/replaced by another player because the coach has the final word on who can make the team.
I hear you. Really tough too with a kid bordering the cut off date by a few days.
It has nothing to do with the cut-off date. It has everything to do with favoritism and nepotism when the coach has the final say. There is no solid evidence that player A is better than player B, other than "the coach says so."
I just meant being on the bottom of the age group seems harder to make a team. I see what you mean. Well we don't have any favoritism or nepotism either. We are new to the area and it will be our first time meeting the coach when we arrive for the evaluation.
