In addition to due date and deadline, there are now cut-offs. Cut-off #1 is interims. Cut-off #2 is the end of the quarter. Work with deadlines prior to interims follow the first cut-off, work with deadlines after interims use the second. Work turned in after the due date but by the deadline may be deducted 10% Work turned in past deadline but by the cut-off must be accepted, but only earns 50%. Work not turned in by the cut-off earns 0.
We have teachers grading zero for work turned in after deadline. My kid’s teachers are very inconsistent. We also learned after the quarter ended that kids on a 504 or IEP that allows for extra time should be given more time between due date and deadline. It’s not clear whether teachers are doing this. Last quarter was a mess for my kid and likely overall GPA. I’m glad MCPS is going for accountability but all teachers should be grading in the same way.
