The problem is that teachers are human and there are only so many hours in the day - meaning the chronological 24-hour day, not the school day.  They have very little time to plan and grade while school is in session, which means that those activities are essentially overtime/homework.  They are part of the job, absolutely, but if you have to choose between being ready to teach tomorrow, counseling an individual student with something they need, attending mandatory training, taking care of your own child, or grading papers, it's pretty much only the grading that can actually wait a couple of days.  I'm completely sympathetic.

The way I deal with this in order to keep tabs on my own kid is that I just set the system to email me when anything gets graded.  I don't really care if it's a new thing or an old thing: what I'm watching for is whether the system thinks that anything is missing, so that DC can check in and submit it, if needed and if allowed.
