She has said her mother has been the single greatest influence on her life and she was her mother's caregiver until her dying day. Those of us in the Desi community can see the love and respect for her culture.
She is proudly both Black and South Asian - a dynamite combo in my opinion!

She isn’t African-American/American Descendant of Slavery.
Her father is from Jamaica and she is a descendant of Jamaican slaves... does it really matter?
