The most important advantage is that the club knows what you are capable of and they would not replace you with a marginally better player. The most important disadvantage is that the club knows what you are capable of and they might want to replace you. It's a sign when former players don't receive an offer and the club keeps holding tryouts. Those former players may not receive a spot on the team unless the club fails to find a replacement.
