I had been cultivating a colleague who is a couple levels above me to support me during year-end / promo time (in an ethical way - helping his team out etc.) My colleague recently found out I am very well off (due to my DH’s income). I wasn’t being secretive but also not being open about it. Now coincidentally he is much less friendly. I worry he will not support me anymore!
I work for the government, and I have several colleagues who are extremely well off. I don't think anyone cares unless they flaunt their money. I would not go to work at a government job dressed in Chanel. I probably also would not wear a giant Cartier or Tiffany ring to interviews. I feel like both of those things are flaunting your wealth and may make people think you don't need a job. I don't see why he should judge you as long as you are doing your job.
I was in a refugee camp once and a big wig at a UN agency (think WFP, WHO) was wearing a Rolex. Who does that?!!
I like this story for being highly illustrative of being ‘a d***’
