That's before you even get to the smaller number of drivers (but still a substantial and noticeable group) who regularly engage in aggressive and highly dangerous behaviors like weaving through traffic and making illegal turns or driving on shoulders or into oncoming traffic to get around other cars.

I don't think we will make progress on this issue unless we can address these cultural attitudes. And I don't think you can change culture by putting in more bike lanes or even offering more public transportation options (though I think the latter has more of an effect). I don't know how you fix this.

People here just don't seem to care. Like sure they will care about a specific person who gets hit by a car. But as a group do people in this area genuinely care about making streets safer. No. They want to be able to drive and park anywhere and they want to be able to go as fast as they want.[/quote]

Why not just buy an illegal dirtbike or quad, skip the helmet, and ride however the F you like, just like all the youth in Ward 8 do?
