Sad story about a young American who died in Colombia in February and his mother’s search for answers. The fact that the US Embassy sat on his autopsy report for months raises serious questions about why US Embassies don’t provide better support to Americans and their families in such situations. And the fact that there apparently were 8 unexplained deaths of Americans in Colombia in the last two months of last year alone really makes you wonder what’s going on down there and why the US Embassy doesn’t demand answers. https://edition.cnn.com/2024/08/25/us/omar-watson-colombia-solo-trip-cec/index.html
Crime is going to happen overseas. Embassies can't prevent it.
Obviously not, but they can put pressure on local authorities to do thorough investigations, and they certainly can give a family some peace by sharing an autopsy report that they have had for months. Unlike European embassies, US Embassies do not seem to act in their citizens’ best interests, but rather seem to be fortresses for waging war and interfering in countries’ affairs.
