I know a man who had this done around the same age because the skin didn’t go back when they thought it “should” have by now. And long after they did it, they realized from another doctor that it probably would have been fine in another few years. He wishes it was not done, since he lost a lot of sensitivity and found it almost impossible to use condoms later on. I would consult several doctors rather than trusting one or two.
I would also get a second opinion from Peds urologist before going through with it. You don’t mention what the issue is. But a more common issue some boys have is the foreskin fails to retract properly. My son had this. It retracted fine from toddler age until a couple yrs before puberty, but then it got too tight to retract fully. But it wasn’t painful and didn’t cause any urination issues. The peds urologist told us we could do a circ, but there would be a good chance that the tightness would resolve with puberty. Since it wasn’t giving him any problems, we opted to wait and see, and it did end up resolving in time.
Same for our DS. He got circumcised later by the dr. It was a surgery. In his early teens. Recovery was ok. He was alright.
