The "maintenance indicator" is a glorified timer as to when some of your maintenance is due. This can be reset by your mechanic (or even you). The "check engine light" is the light that illuminates when your cars emissions system isn't working efficiently. It will produce a code that can be retrieved by a scanner. That code will clue you into the repair that is needed. (Sometimes the CEL can be caused by a loose fitting gas cap but newer cars have a separate warning for this). [/quote]
