[/quote] It's an actual mid-century, old house, with quirks. I don't need to open and close the curtains daily - I plan on just using simple white cotton to diffuse light or add some accenting. [/quote] But the quirk is a free standing cabinet? If it were me, I would do a Roman shade instead of curtains hanging behind a cabinet if you can’t cheat the cabinet forward to make room. I think you need them to have a little breathing room to make that work? Is it this kind of a situation?
