It's an actual mid-century, old house, with quirks.

I don't need to open and close the curtains daily - I plan on just using simple white cotton to diffuse light or add some accenting.

But the quirk is a free standing cabinet? If it were me, I would do a Roman shade instead of curtains hanging behind a cabinet if you can’t cheat the cabinet forward to make room. I think you need them to have a little breathing room to make that work?

Is it this kind of a situation?

Ohhh, hmmm, I have mixed feelings. I think pole pocket panels will be your only option, and those are a real PITA to open and close. If you go with this I would consider adding a shade on the window so the curtain panels are just decorative.

I posted earlier about needing a low profile curtain rod, and think I've found a solution - leather strap "hardware" and a dowel rod from Home Depot (examples below).

What color strap should I use? I'll need 3.

Room hues: admittedly kind of mildly midcentury meets modern farmhouse-y. White, black, cognac browns, greens, yellow, and some grey. Floors are kind of a light honey stain.
