/internet sales manager guy keep asking me what cars we already own. I told him we aren't interested in trading anything in. He says he can't give me a price on a new car without knowing what cars we already own. I asked why and he didn't answer. Whats's the deal?
If you own two Mercedes it tells him more than if you own a single Kia. You're right, it's not relevant to anything. if he can't give you a price, tell him thanks for his time and move on to the next dealer. PP is right. Use the dealer for a test drive. If you like what you drive, go home and e-mail multiple dealers who have the car and ask for their best "out-the-door" price. Tell them to treat you as you're paying cash (get any financing you might need lined up in advance from a credit union.). Obviously don't buy the undercoating, extended warranty etc.
They're more likely to give you a better price if you finance the car. They make more money in the long term.
