They want you to show all your cards. They want to know what your potential trade value is.

Don’t show your cards, negotiate the price of the car, only the car, not by monthly payments only the cash price, get it in writing, then negotiate your trade in if you want and don’t finance at the dealership.

When they say we can get you in this car for cuz a month cut them off saying I’m negotiating the price of the car not monthly payments.

Because there are manufacturer discounts if you switch over from a competing brand; and also a loyalty discount if you already own the brand you're buying.

Ignore.

Failing that, “why do you ask?”

Put a review online calling him out and also send an email to the GM of the dealership

He’s probably required by his boss to ask the question. There’s a form he has to fill out on you and it’s required.

Why do they want that info if she's not doing a trade in? Doesnt seem worth risking

If you own two Mercedes it tells him more than if you own a single Kia.

You're right, it's not relevant to anything. if he can't give you a price, tell him thanks for his time and move on to the next dealer.

PP is right. Use the dealer for a test drive. If you like what you drive, go home and e-mail multiple dealers who have the car and ask for their best "out-the-door" price. Tell them to treat you as you're paying cash (get any financing you might need lined up in advance from a credit union.).

Obviously don't buy the undercoating, extended warranty etc.

They're more likely to give you a better price if you finance the car. They make more money in the long term.

Don't deal with these guys in person. That's how they get you. They keep you around for an hour just to haggle the price hoping eventually you'll say OK just so you can go home. Find the car you want by driving it at the dealer, go home, find the car you want at a few different dealerships, and make them fight each other for your business.

He's bad at his job. I'd ask to work with someone else or go to another dealer.
