There has always been a contingent of adolescents who steal from stores, and do other dangerous and stupid things, like drink and drive, at every generation. DD was horrified to learn that some of her Westland middle school classmates did this at Montgomery Mall. Back in my day, teens did the same thing - not even in the same country. It's not because they can't afford necessities. It's because some teen brains relish the thrill. For the most part, they grow into responsible adults. Those that don't drink and kill themselves at the wheel. But good of you to crawl out from under your rock and join the rest of us.
Me again. This isn't to say that you can't contact the acting Principal of Walter Johnson, OP (the Principal retired mid year). You are a member of the community, therefore you are entitled to complain about the behavior of a presumed student of that school. Principals sometimes send out emails to families about behavioral problems that occur in or near their schools. The ones that happen off campus but impact the community can still be part of a warning about losing business support if students act out. A couple of years ago, the Principal of WJ sent out a message about students fighting in front of businesses near the school (knives and chairs were involved). She said that she would curtail open lunch for certain grades if this continued. One theft in one store will probably not trigger an email, but if enough people complain... who knows. Just don't expect much.
