She didn’t do well. She got the lowest score and we got an email from the assistant principal stating that they do not usually share the results of this test until 3rd grade but they are worried. So we had a meeting. One teacher mentioned a neuropsychological evaluation, one teacher said it’s possible our daughter just rushed through the test. What are we to do? Evaluations are costly. Good places charge $5000 and up. Insurance doesn’t cover this. Our daughter’s report cards and weekly school work do not match the test results. K and 1st grade were pure socialization at the school with lots of cartoons. We do get the help for her with math. She goes to a tutoring place once a week. The school also pulls her out for ela and math twice a week (because of the MAP results). And now they want us to evaluate her. Is it worth doing it? She will be 8 in May. She isn’t disruptive in class. Yes, one on one instruction is easier for her, no doubt. But she reads well, write cool stories, her spelling isn’t too bad. HW can be a nightmare through. The school gives daily homework and for ela they give time restrictions like “6 min on coding words and identifying parts of speech” (20 words) and “4 min on writing sentences”. They are stopping this after complaints from parents. Husband wants to go ahead and test her. I feel like it’s too early. Should we wait until the next MAP test? Also, please tell me about this test. Is it like SOL at APS schools? I have to admit, I was much happier when my other kids was at APS. No daily cartoons there.
