This makes sense to me. If a child has been playing violin for years but isn't quite up to making it into Duke for violin, they could still switch to one of the instruments that orchestra programs are always short on (viola, cello, bass, etc.). I did that switch in high school because my orchestra needed more cellos and had too many violins. [/quote]
