My kid is a freshman now. Because the Chemistry honor course is automatically chosen in the 10th grade elected courses list at TJ. My kid would like to take the AP chemistry course in 10th grade . Can my kid ask for the counselor to change Chemistry honor into AP Chemistry without taking the Chemistry honor course at TJ in summer because my kid need to take PE course online in this summer. Please give some advices! I will be appreciated for any advices!
you can try, but you may want to first come up with a formidable reason
DP .. OP I am genuinely curious to understand why your child would want to do that ? Is there any advantage ?
Not OP but if they anticipate graduating near top of class and care about class GPA rank, they might want to maximize the number of 5.0 courses and minimize the number of 4.5 courses (and especially 4.0s). I'd assume the PE course would be taken pass/fail for that reason, and if they can bypass Honors Chem for AP Chem that helps GPA and also opens up a slot in either 11th/12th for some other 5.0 course of interest that they'd rather take instead (GPA aside).
TJ and FCPS do not class rank, and, colleges only look at core academic GPA
