Can my kid ask for the counselor to change Chemistry honor into AP Chemistry without taking the Chemistry honor course at TJ in summer because my kid need to take PE course online in this summer. Please give some advices! I will be appreciated for any advices!

you can try, but you may want to first come up with a formidable reason

DP .. OP I am genuinely curious to understand why your child would want to do that ? Is there any advantage ?

Not OP but if they anticipate graduating near top of class and care about class GPA rank, they might want to maximize the number of 5.0 courses and minimize the number of 4.5 courses (and especially 4.0s). I'd assume the PE course would be taken pass/fail for that reason, and if they can bypass Honors Chem for AP Chem that helps GPA and also opens up a slot in either 11th/12th for some other 5.0 course of interest that they'd rather take instead (GPA aside).

TJ and FCPS do not class rank, and, colleges only look at core academic GPA

Same reason for taking honors chem over regular chem or TJ over the home school. Or maybe they want to prepare for USChO, and AP would do a better job than honors.

USAChO is self prep. School class is irrelevant. If you need a school class, USAChO isn't relevant to you.

very few dropout. Most that enroll in AP chem are the ones with A or A- in Chem. About half of AP Chem class manages to get an A, rest mostly earn Bs. This is the typical grade distribution for most TJ AP classes with a hard prereq. Poor performance on prereq discourages student from taking on AP level, which likely is the case even in base school.

Do most students get an A in TJ's AP Chemistry? Is it more of a manageable course or could this be because only the studious students who get an A in TJ's regular Chemistry are mostly the ones enrolling in TJ's AP Chemistry?

Yes. Have to take honors Chem first. Same with bio. But you can go right to physics C if you dare (and take the BC calc corequisite).
