We plan to plant a dwarf sour cherry tree this year, but got a little overwhelmed by the varieties offered. Is there one that grows well here ornis particularly tasty?
There are several new varieties that have been released by the university of Saskatchewan that have been growing in popularity. Of these I have grown Carmine Jewel, Crimson Passion, and Juliet. Juliet was the best by a margin. It grows as a small tree or large bush and produces very sweet tart cherries with a much darker red than montmorency. https://www.goodfruit.com/tarts-with-a-touch-of-romance/ https://www.gurneys.com/product/juliet-dwarf-cherry Please be aware that like most fruit trees in our area they will require a fair bit of care. They will get cherry leaf spot and if you hope to eat your cherries you will need to protect them from birds and squirrels.
