We have screening questions for everyone that gets admitted to the hospital and some are mental health questions. I've had many patients trigger the red flag for suicidal ideation and not realize the consequences of it. Its a really shitty system. If you don't follow the rules when a patient gets flagged and then they leave and kill themselves, huge legal issue. But sometimes people need help but all the stuff that comes with the help can make the situation worse. I really don't know what the answer is. The whole system needs to be done over.
