I’m a boomer and my kids millennials and we were not helicopter parents. As soon as they got out of college they were on their own with no parent subsidies. But, we were always available for discussions about careers, dating and with our youngest my husband would have a dad/daughter dinner once a month for a couple of years just to talk about anything. Now they are all married with kids and doing well but we offer advice if they ask on investing or other things because we’ve been there. We have more of that kind of engagement than my parents had with us because today communication is so much easier.
same, my 1944 & 1950 parents are like that for me 1979 and my sibling 1982. they listen, are sounding boards and give great advice. My friends now mid 40s call them for advice or ideas too! And sadly as the 80s approach more funerals of my parents friends and my friends parents.
