You do have to have signed up by the initial deadline (not registered late).[/quote] Your child is better off taking the exam, regardless of whether they pass. They are more likely to try in the class, and the exam is good exposure to college exams. Kids almost always do better in a subsequent exam. Most colleges are requiring freshman writing, even with a passing AP Lang score, and that is a good thing. The standards have eroded and I think there are few kids, even among those who score a 5 in Lang, who wouldn't benefit from more writing instruction in college. A high score on the Lang exam might place your child into an honors section of writing in college, though. - AP Lang teacher[/quote]
