Your child is better off taking the exam, regardless of whether they pass. They are more likely to try in the class, and the exam is good exposure to college exams. Kids almost always do better in a subsequent exam.

Most colleges are requiring freshman writing, even with a passing AP Lang score, and that is a good thing. The standards have eroded and I think there are few kids, even among those who score a 5 in Lang, who wouldn't benefit from more writing instruction in college. A high score on the Lang exam might place your child into an honors section of writing in college, though.

It was done for equity reasons, and it makes sense. It won't be cut from the budget.

MCPs cares about image. Blah blah % of our students took the AP exam, blah blah % passed with a 4 or 5.

I don't think the pushing is an MCPS thing. DCs teachers did not encourage or discourage either way.

If the test doesn't actually count for anything is it worth it?
I noticed AP Language & Comp doesn't have an equivalent course at UMD. Therefore, they will give you credit for a good score, but it won't actually count for a particular course?[mastodon]
