A family friend who lived in NYC got her baby some modeling gigs. Mom came from marketing background and only had her DD do very specific catalog or stock photo type shoots. It was very easy for the mom to get her DD back and forth to sets or studios. All work ceased around kindergarten per parents’ plans. Then my local (MD) ex-SIL took her DD, then 8, to NYC to meet with some sort of sketchy child talent agency. They spent a weekend there and likely paid for head shots or photo shoots, then returned home. Crickets. Niece did exactly one modeling assignment: in dance wear for publication in a dance catalog. And that was the beginning and end of the modeling. Niece now a teen and quit dance and any interest in modeling years ago.
That’s good it didn’t turn out worse for your ex-SIL. You have to research who the top agencies are and only go with those. They can refer you to legitimate photographers. —parent whose kids were repped by a top 3. I’m also the one who responded to the above two posts.
