Most food poisoning takes longer to manifest. Could have been something they ate at lunch or even the day before.
It’s actually the opposite. Most food poisoning takes hours to kick in. Rarely it takes 24 h or more. We got food poisoning from a restaurant and notified them. They were apologetic and claimed that we were the only ones. The next day, we went to our kid’s soccer game. Another family had the same experience with the same restaurant. They knew the owner and called him personally and he swore to the them that no one else had gotten sick. Obviously both scenarios could not be true. We have eaten there again without issue. Restaurants really don’t want to have to report anything to the health department, but they should have done so after getting 2 complaints. And possibly many more. And I could have reported it, but I felt bad for the restaurant.
