But they should be informed bc the batch of oysters could be tainted or their storage could be sub par.

Exactly. If it was last night, the restaurant needs to know.

I’ve had food poisoning twice in my life and there’s no mistaking it for anything else. Norovirus is bad, but not as painful.

The latest strain of covid affects the digestive tract. Could be that.

It’s actually the opposite. Most food poisoning takes hours to kick in. Rarely it takes 24 h or more. We got food poisoning from a restaurant and notified them. They were apologetic and claimed that we were the only ones. The next day, we went to our kid’s soccer game. Another family had the same experience with the same restaurant. They knew the owner and called him personally and he swore to the them that no one else had gotten sick. Obviously both scenarios could not be true. We have eaten there again without issue. Restaurants really don’t want to have to report anything to the health department, but they should have done so after getting 2 complaints. And possibly many more. And I could have reported it, but I felt bad for the restaurant.

The one time I was sure my DH had food poisoning it turned out to be norovirus. How do I know? I started throwing up soon after, and we didn’t eat the same food.

Then reports from all our friends confirmed it. Everyone at this one gathering got sick, save for 2 people. It was horrific.

I've had food poisoning twice in my life. Both times it was shellfish. But agree with PP that it's always a risk with oysters and not the restaurant's fault.

People are often quick to ascribe to food poisoning what could have been caused by a bug they picked up in another way, e.g. a doorknob…

Not necessarily.

"The time it takes food poisoning symptoms to start can vary. Illness often starts in about 1 to 3 days. But symptoms can start any time from 30 minutes to 3 weeks after eating contaminated food. The length of time depends on the type of bacteria or virus causing the illness."

It depends. Sorry to get gross, but what kind of sick? Vomiting? How soon after meal and did he immediately feel better? Diarrhea, and if so for how long? Fever?

If you really suspect food poisoning yes, you should tell the restaurant.

No
It probably wasn't the restaurant's fault
Maybe they didn't wash their hands before eating

Had an amazing meal last night but afterwards my date got sick. They ordered raw seafood and otherwise nothing they had was different from what others had. Should I tell the restaurant?
