Why would they hope for collision? Is it not just some usual stupidity?
a rear ended is always the driver who hit the car in front. even if they slam on the brakes, even if they swerve in front of you. therefore they can ask for injuries and related payout costs.
I drove a nicer car when I was in my 20s and one day I was on a road early morning with almost no other cars. All of a sudden a car passed me, swerved into my lane and slammed on brakes. Thankfully I stopped just in time, but it was SO obvious it was a scam. The front passenger even turned all the way around and looked once we were stopped, I guess to confirm I wasn’t going to hit them after all. I sat there and waited until they drove off before I started moving again. It was so jarring.
