For Girls, I would start attending ID camps Sophmore year with the understanding the coach's cannot call or email you. While you are at the ID camp if you grab their attention with your play the coach's will and are allowed to talk to your DD at these camps...thats why we have to pay the ID camp fee...we are technically not talking to a HC recruiter we are talking to the person that is running the ID camp who just happens to be a coach. With that said, if you attend a College ID camp at a school and your kid does not get any attention, talking to, curiosity from the coaching staff...that is your clue that your kid is not someone they plan to recruit. My DD went to an ID camp with no inside track and above is what I described happened. My sophmore rocked an ID camp, the coaches noticed and talked to her...the other 4 ID camps at other schools we attended she got no communication of substance from the ID/Coaching staff....its not rocket science...if they like you they will talk to your kid. Have fun, try all types of ID camps, D1, D2, D3....find out where you DD grabs the coach's attention! I had my DD go to (1) D3 ID camp, (3) different D1 camps (diff size schools), and went to (1) D1 ID call back...this is the one that made her an offer Good Luck
I would add to this that college coaches can and will reach out to your daughter's club coach, if they are interested in her.
If you have the ability to honestly evaluate (as a parent) you daughter as a player and where (with your coaches feedback) she can possibly play then camps might be worth it. For the most part these are money grabs for college coaches and 90percent of the girls can't play at the schools they are attending these camps. I've seen some local girls post from over 15 different camps with the obligatory picture with the head coach. Not one school was NOT a power 5 conference. With the camp fee and travel that is a lot of money for most people. These camps are well attended...so either there is a massive disconnect from reality or people just love the experience. To each his/her own.
