I would add to this that college coaches can and will reach out to your daughter's club coach, if they are interested in her.
If you have the ability to honestly evaluate (as a parent) you daughter as a player and where (with your coaches feedback) she can possibly play then camps might be worth it. For the most part these are money grabs for college coaches and 90percent of the girls can't play at the schools they are attending these camps. I've seen some local girls post from over 15 different camps with the obligatory picture with the head coach. Not one school was NOT a power 5 conference. With the camp fee and travel that is a lot of money for most people. These camps are well attended...so either there is a massive disconnect from reality or people just love the experience. To each his/her own.
Completely agree that you have to be realistic about your daughter's ability. It's good to have top 5 schools and target those. The top 5 should be a mix of reach and realistic possibilities -- not all P5 as the previous poster accurately noted. A number of players from my daughter's team who got offers from good D1 schools went to their ID camps 2-3 times. Coaches like to see real interest in the school and program. Again, you have to be realistic about your ability and target the right schools.

Yes. Plus, the younger boys (often very, very few) will get shunted off to a lower field and it's more just a regular camp. The coaches are looking primarily at their next recruiting class. They know male players change so much between 14-18.
And, as has been said on this board, male soccer recruitment has really shifted to later and later. Commitments, minuses the few superstars from MLS academies, are coming later and later. A lot post-signing day. Save the $700 for camp until down the road.

Is it a waste to start attending ID camps as a Freshman? What if there are top three choice schools, does it make sense to start attending that school ID camps starting Freshman year? Curious as what others experiences have been who have gone through the recruiting process
