To my knowledge, MCPS is uninterested in kids' IQ scores unless you want your child in the GT/LD program (gifted, talented and learning disabled). Kids need an IEP and a certain IQ score to get in. My child was admitted and it did him a world of good. However, if you believe your child needs services and accommodations through an IEP or a 504, then the neuropsychological report may bolster your request if it describes certain diagnoses and recommends said services and accommodations. For magnet selection, I do not believe an IQ scor is taken into account. MCPS has its own criteria (grades, MAP, MCAP), and ultimately uses a lottery for in-pool students.
The lottery experiment they started during covid is slated to end this year, but they haven't said what will come next.
It was supposed to be 3 years, but we are in year 4 and they are still using lotteries. They are not going to get rid of it.
They didn't review it in time, perhaps conveniently. It's on the list to be reviewed by OSA in the spring. Any real change would happen next year. Not confident that will happen, despite there having been possible solutions to several inconsistencies noted...and ignored in favor of waiting for the review.
