If someone comes home with groceries and the other person is home and not engaged in something useful, that person helps put away groceries. If someone comes home with groceries and the other person isn’t home or is engaged in some other useful activity, then the person puts the groceries away themselves. This logic holds for spouses, kids, and anyone else who is staying at the home.
This exactly. I’m a SAHM and do most of the grocery shopping while kids are in school. If DH is working from home and can take a break, he will help me carry stuff in and put away. Same for if I go in the afternoon and kids are home. I can’t imagine anyone just chilling in the house while I lug in all the stuff. I also obviously can’t leave perishable groceries sitting in the car if no one is available to help!
