We all pitch in. If dh grocery shops and comes home to an empty house, he'll put them all away. If I'm home, I help.

Groceries need to get put away immediately. We don't bean count.

Frankly, grocery shopping is the easy task (and we both recognize that), especially if you got to go without babies and toddlers. It's almost a vacation.

This logic holds for spouses, kids, and anyone else who is staying at the home.

This exactly. I’m a SAHM and do most of the grocery shopping while kids are in school. If DH is working from home and can take a break, he will help me carry stuff in and put away. Same for if I go in the afternoon and kids are home. I can’t imagine anyone just chilling in the house while I lug in all the stuff. I also obviously can’t leave perishable groceries sitting in the car if no one is available to help!

How can you stay in marriage with attitudes like that? Or if your DH is really THAT unhelpful. Either way, I don't get it.

I do most of the grocery shopping but if my husband is home he helps with the unpacking.

I'm retired and have more time AND I can do it better and faster but DH likes to help when he isn't tied with work or tired so I let him even if its not the most efficient way.

If the person who shopped wants to take a break, they are excused from stowing. But we also have the kids help haul everything in and put things away. So it’s a shared task.

In my house usually the person who did not do the grocery shopping takes over and puts everything away. We make the teenager take the stuff that goes down to the basement.

Grocery shopping like many tasks (laundry) can be a completed task - one person starts and completes. Or various steps can be shared (we often switch loads the other person started). It just depends. For some families, its easier to designate tasks as "whole completed tasks" so one person is responsible from start to finish.

Interesting, thank you!

my DH does the grocery shopping and then he and the kids put the groceries away. I do all of the cooking, dishwasher emptying and dish washing every single day so I let them handle that task without me.

Well since this is in General Parenting, my kids (8&10) do it. That way they know what we have and where to find it.

If you or DH go grocery shopping, do you expect them to put the items into the refrigerator too?

Or is this a task that is shared?
