Yesterday, I came home after a weekend away and found 2 packages on my doorstep that had been opened. Nothing was taken. I checked my Ring doorbell cam footage, and a guy had showed up at my door at around 5:15 pm the day before. He then stood on my front steps for almost 40 minutes, then opened the packages. He held his phone up to the camera and showed some text messages, saying “I was messaging someone on an app and they told me to meet them here, but I can now see that it was a scam and they were trying to take my money. I opened the packages to see if they were for me, as you can see, I didn’t take anything. Thought you should know your address is being used for this.” Has anyone experienced anything like this? I called the police non-emergency line and they were completely unconcerned.
That is very weird and you lucked out that you had an honest person show up and warn you. Maybe for the time being don’t have packages deliver to your house. Google your address to see if you see it pop up on Facebook or craigslist. If there is any way to contact that man, you might be able to ask what he was looking to buy so you can be on the lookout for similar items.
