My son is an AR for rec games, and was really upset about the older teen center he worked with yesterday. He said guy ignored all fouls (at the very end, when I came to pick my son up, I saw my son waving the flag wildly after one kid pushed another down from behind, and the ref waved him off). My son talked to the coach of the team that we being chippy at halftime about all the uncalled fouls and safety issues, and the response was "the main ref will tell me if it is a problem." My son also said that one team randomly had an extra player on the field for no reason (not mercy rules, they were up by several), and when he altered the center, he told my son to "stop being annoying." My son does not want to talk to the assignor because he is afraid that he will wind up getting assigned to work with the older teen center again, and it will be awkward. However, I think he really needs to do so, at least to suggest that the center needs more mentoring.
Welcome to Rec Soccer. Your son must be new at refereeing (AR). If he wants to work with a Coach and a Ref that follows soccer guidelines, I'd recommend he moves up and works at higher level games like SFL or NCSL. Or CCL, National League, EDP or MLSNEXT if he wants ALL the rules followed!
