I work in email marketing and I'm here to tell you that unsubscribing is the way. It's a legality that companies must abide or risk fines, and even though it's a bit time-consuming, it's the best way to keep your inbox clear. Companies add you to multiple lists, so you have to unsubscribe from all, either in one visit to the company website, or by clicking the link in the email. As a PP said, if they don't have a link to unsub, it's illegal and if you're feeling litigious, you could report them. Sometimes they're putting the link in white font so it's unreadable. Oh the tricks.
But what if you click on "unsubscribe" and go through all the steps and then you still keep getting messages from them? These are from reputable companies (e.g., I'm going through this now with StubHub). So frustrating and seems illegal but I don't know who to report it to, if anyone.
