I would find a console table for the back brick wall. You might have to shift or replace the table to make that fit but it will be important to draw the eye and it needs a big lamp and a mirror or piece of art for the wall. Then you need at least one more lamp somewhere else.

Getting into more involved stuff:
I’d probably paint the brick and paneling.
I might paint or stain the floor. But with the big rug it might not be worth the work. 
If you can, replacing the doors would help. They look flimsy. But the roman shades would help some too. 
If you ever replace the paneling, take the opportunity to add wiring for sconces. [/quote]
