Some of us don't get help from our parents and found a job and are living within our means., like grown ups.
Great. Are you a recent grad? Did you get a job? In your field? Did you go or plan to go to grad school? I never had help from my parents either, but I'm asking about how things look for recent grads 30 years later.
I am a recent grad and I did get a job in my field. I did go to grad school right after undergrad. I'm just saying, your 25 year old doesn't need an allowance.
Parent of college student here. So how many grads are employed in their field right after college or grad school? In my sampling of nieces and nephews (scattered around the country), it seems about 20% in field employment rate after college graduation. And I see a fair amount of parental financial contributions.
I can't speak for the field, but as far as I am aware 90%+ of my classmates are employed in the field (some exceptions include pregnancy/military/further education). I know there are more applicants than jobs out there, but if I did not have a job in my field I would still be working at Starbucks or something else to make ends meet. I know plenty of people who are in their 20s, employed, and receive assistance from their parents so they can afford a bigger apartment in a cooler part of DC. I have reservations about these peoples' ability to ever support themselves because they are so used to having help from their parents.
