...no matter what your immigration status might be. I've been very busy this summer and just found out about this legislation that came into effect July 1st. https://www.marylandmatters.org/2022/05/26/with-healthy-babies-equity-act-maryland-will-join-other-states-that-provide-prenatal-care-regardless-of-immigration-status/ https://dcist.com/story/23/06/30/md-health-care-pregnant-non-citizens/ So if you illegally enter the United States, Maryland legislators think MD tax payers should pick up your medical bill. If you are a hard working, life long MD resident who lives on 45k/year - you are on your own. Got it. Has there ever been an organization that has played local governments like a fiddle as CASA has before? I can't think of one in my 50+ years of living in DC/MD.
This is a wonderful thing. A growing, healthy population is necessary for the entire metropolitan area to succeed. That child will be more likely to grow up to be a productive member of society with supports like these than if they were left to wither on the vine. If you are a hard working, lifelong MD resident making 45k/year, you are not on your own. Taxpayers are already subsidizing their existence through the EITC, ACA exchange subsidies, and perhaps even programs like SNAP and WIC depending on household size.
