There are many women who have physically and sexually abused children in daycare settings. Yes, I understand that there are more men who have done so than women, but it is sexist to only be suspicious of male daycare workers. That's like saying that you only worry about urban street crime from black youth because they have a higher rate of conviction for crime. But inner city white youth also commit violent crimes. It is short-sighted to use statistics to bias you against male daycare workers. Either you trust the facility to appropriately vet their staff before hiring including doing background checks, or you don't. When my children were in daycare, I made sure to pick a daycare where there were always two daycare employees per room over ones where there were often only one worker per room. Yes, even there, they still had one worker per room during lunch/nap time because each teacher had a 30 minute lunch during which the other teacher was the only adult in the room, but otherwise, there were two workers per room, so there was always another adult in the room to observe anything unusual that might happen. That was far more important to me than just being suspicious of a candidate for being male.
