There are many women who have physically and sexually abused children in daycare settings. Yes, I understand that there are more men who have done so than women, but it is sexist to only be suspicious of male daycare workers. That's like saying that you only worry about urban street crime from black youth because they have a higher rate of conviction for crime. But inner city white youth also commit violent crimes. It is short-sighted to use statistics to bias you against male daycare workers. Either you trust the facility to appropriately vet their staff before hiring including doing background checks, or you don't.

When my children were in daycare, I made sure to pick a daycare where there were always two daycare employees per room over ones where there were often only one worker per room. Yes, even there, they still had one worker per room during lunch/nap time because each teacher had a 30 minute lunch during which the other teacher was the only adult in the room, but otherwise, there were two workers per room, so there was always another adult in the room to observe anything unusual that might happen. That was far more important to me than just being suspicious of a candidate for being male.

I know people have feelings about this but it is illegal to discriminate against men when hiring, just as illegal as it would be to discriminate against women.

OP, I’m really not sure what you were expecting.

Apropos of nothing, I just want to edit the title to:

Daycare hired a male staff

They don't need to because statistically adult males are more likely to be pedophiles.

WTF is wrong with people? I would be THRILLED a man is working there. It's important for children to have all types of caregivers, and for them to learn that men can be caretakers too. Do you think your DH shouldn't be able to help a friend's kid go to the bathroom?

Not every man who works with children is Jerry Sandusky.

Are you a man?

Not every man who works with children is Jerry Sandusky.
Yes, except you do not know who is a potential Jerry Sandusky, do you? It takes a level of trust and familiarity with the caregiver men and women for most parents to give their kids to them for care giving. I would not trust a neighbor or a friend's husband either to be a caregiver that is changing cloths or diapering. sure, if it is an emergency, these familiar people could help out a kid, but I could not call upon them to be the care provider. Yes, my DH did more than 50% of caregiving of our kids. And both grandpas and uncle and cousins have provided babysitting.

Your bar may be lower. I would not trust any man that I do not know very well and trust completely with my kids and even then I draw a line with the men changing my kid, diapering or seeing them naked.

There is no reason to make your kids the easy targets for pedos, No one cares to be the first wilderbeest to jump into the crocodile infested river.

FWIW my son’s two favorite daycare teachers (by far) were both men. One was middle aged and one was quite young and we were in a group setting that always had multiple teachers in the rooms.

Do they send the parents of little boys notification each time they hire a new female staffer?

Op here. I did not know that he is a staff because I have been doing fast pick up/dropoff. I have not been paying attention until recently, and he has been working there for maybe 2 plus weeks.

I have been sending my kids to this daycare/preschool for 5 years because of multiple kids. They have recently hired their first male staff in my DD4 classroom. It is open bathroom door policy (no door installed), so there is nothing I could do if he happens to see other girls using bathroom because some table settings are facing bathroom. I wonder if he will help out other kids to change in/out of bathing suit to regular clothing during water time. Is it oddball and awful if I ask administration about it? I don't want to make it awkward but I also kind of want to know.

I am surprised that the admin has not send us any notices when they hire their first male staff.
