Well, it's a lot more complicated than that.  She was "ineffective" from the point of view of some, not all of the Board.  She resisted the lure of $$$$$$$ in exchange for offering online classes.  In short, she resisted the corporatization of UVA.  She refused to sell out.

IMO this is emblematic of a larger and extremely serious crisis in public education--not just higher ed, but k-12 as well.  The trend is to sell out to business interests, pure and simple.  [/quote]
