TJ Sophomore Parent here - How important is it to get an A Grade in all courses. Honest opinion please
Been around TJ for longer than anyone here. It is not altogether that important to get ALL A’s. What is important is to get mostly A’s, especially in core courses and those related to the student’s eventual intended course of study, if that is known. Final grades are what matter, not quarter grades - so don’t stress too much if a couple of stumbles happen through the year. None of this will matter if the child isn’t pursuing their passions and developing things that will make them interesting outside of the school day. A couple of extra Bs is worth it for something strong in extracurriculars and outside the sort of traditional TJ activities that hundreds of kids do - stay away from Model UN, Debate, Crew, and Latin. If you’re doing sports, avoid track. All of the above will put you in a big mix of very similar TJ kids and will not help you stand out.
