Absolutely not. The only reason we go at all is that DH’s family wants us there, and they pay. We hate the beach but endure a few days out of duty. We’ve happily paid for actually fun, creative vacations with both sides of the family.
OP here, I appreciate that. I love the beach, this one in particular. I love amazing fully decked out beach houses. We haven’t gone since CoVid, so in addition to my parents and a few of the family members that have committed, I actually really want to do this.
I’ve stayed in many, many top-dollar beach rentals. Very high end. But even the most expensive places on the most desirable beaches are never “fully decked out.” I have been in several that have the flimsiest blinds/window coverings ever, that never block out any sun. Dull knives, flimsy cutting boards, ancient can openers. I wish beach house lovers would have more self-awareness about what it actually is. If you love that type of vacation, PAY FOR IT and invite others to join you, if you want the pleasure of their company. But don’t act like it’s some giant favor.
