Funny enough, I would never. That said, I've had up to 4K/week in bookings for my AirBNB. I've paid up to 2.5K/week for just our family at an AirBNB but that was less than a resort.

OP here, I appreciate that. I love the beach, this one in particular. I love amazing fully decked out beach houses. We haven’t gone since CoVid, so in addition to my parents and a few of the family members that have committed, I actually really want to do this.

I’ve stayed in many, many top-dollar beach rentals. Very high end. But even the most expensive places on the most desirable beaches are never “fully decked out.” I have been in several that have the flimsiest blinds/window coverings ever, that never block out any sun. Dull knives, flimsy cutting boards, ancient can openers. I wish beach house lovers would have more self-awareness about what it actually is.

If you love that type of vacation, PAY FOR IT and invite others to join you, if you want the pleasure of their company. But don’t act like it’s some giant favor.

We’ve spent up to $30k on a week and it’s been awesome. If you have the money, why not?

OP, do you get that not everyone actually likes beach house vacations? Stop acting like people are failing you or letting you down or not coming through for you just because they don’t want to fork over thousands to be bored.

Also, 10 bedrooms, 8.5 baths. But the question isn’t really whether the house is worth it. It’s whether I want to float 1/2 the cost to make the trip happen.

I can afford to float 1/2 of it. Other 1/2 would be covered by those committed.

4 nights, oceanfront, nice stretch of beach on NC coastline, brand new, all updated amenities. It looks fully booked except for that one weekend I am looking at.

I’m concerned about being out the money but the bigger concern is ending up in a giant beach house with not many people and it just being a huge flop that causes resentment. I’m not booking yet.

This is exactly what I JUST did - determined how many rooms would be unoccupied if others did not come.

Family has not all committed, and I know I can / want to pay more than others. I would probably get reimbursed for half of the rental. Would you do this if you could? I just want to make sure I’m thinking this through and not acting irrationally. Honestly not sure how much longer my parents will be around, and I know they want to include the family members that have not committed.
