[/quote] Also, to better answer your questions: 1) Travel clubs usually have a rec component, and its also a great way to get more exposure and/or identify new talent. They also might just not care about competing dates - its hard to find a long weekend or time just after school ends to do this stuff. 2) IME rec tournaments and games are often refereed by coaches, so its possible to fill in any reffing holes as needed.
