Subject: Two rec all star tournaments on the same weekend right next door?

Looks like they align themselves with CYA and SYA, so likely marketing it there. https://www.virginiavalorfc.org/grassroots-soccer. Sounds like they are planning on a very big event! And yeah, that's a lot for a rec tourney. But most other travel seasons are done by then, so more ref availability.

FPYC is great fun for the kids (though tbh, the dad coaches probably enjoy it at least as much).

Also, to better answer your questions:
1) Travel clubs usually have a rec component, and its also a great way to get more exposure and/or identify new talent. They also might just not care about competing dates - its hard to find a long weekend or time just after school ends to do this stuff.
2) IME rec tournaments and games are often refereed by coaches, so its possible to fill in any reffing holes as needed.

I don't know about these two events, but there are often multiple tournaments the same weekend in the same area, and generally on long weekends, so they have an extra day to play. Clubs may also split their teams among more than one tournament. Also, some clubs may host a tournament, and yet some of their own teams may be playing elsewhere on the same weekend.
There is a ton of demand for fields and refs, of course, but everyone needs the extra day that memorial day provides.

I know this board is almost all club talk, but does anyone know the back story here? Why is a travel org holding a rec all star tournament at all and why are they having it the same weekend as FPYC's rec all star tournament, which is every year on the same weekend? It seems like they would be directly competing for fields, refs, and teams. We are participating in FPYC like usual but I am hoping the older girls teams still have decent competition and have not been deluted between the two options.
