I have a X3M, same body but different drivetrain, with pretty much every available option except for the optional seats, which I found too constricting for daily use. I reached out to every dealer in MD and VA, and to a few in PA, to obtain pricing. Ended up buying from a dealer in Richmond. Pricing varies widely, depending on dealership-specific incentives which change often, so it's not possible to say that a given dealership will always have the best pricing - timing matters, and you have to do the legwork.
Thanks. Did you just email all the dealerships with what you wanted and compare quotes?
Yes, I emailed every dealer. Some dealership websites even contain a link for submitting requests for bids, because shopping this way is relatively common, a practice accelerated during the pandemic when people didn't want to physically visit dealerships. A few dealers didn't respond but most did. It's important to have a concrete idea of the model and options you want, and whether you're looking to order from the factory to get your exact specifications. If dealers offer you cars on their lots which have different options, comparing their prices will be harder than if you specify exactly what you want and ask for their price for ordering it from the factory. As an aside, consider asking for factory delivery. The dealer never takes possession of the car, just does the paperwork processing, and you get a free hotel night, dinner, breakfast, a factory tour, and time on the test track with a vehicle similar to the one you're purchasing. I have done that twice previously, although I took delivery of the X3M at the dealership for scheduling reasons - lots of fun. https://bmwperformancecenter.com/delivery/ The X3M is at a different price point than the x30i, but you might enjoy test driving the M variant - it's very fast, and is effectively a high performance sports car with the utility of a small SUV.
Thank you for this great information! I didn't know about factory delivery. Did you order it from the factory (i know you took delivery at dealership)? This way you can compare prices and not sure how much on the lot match my specs. I will try to drive both x30i and X3M. One dealer said you can get leather by ordering x30i with M trim (not the X3M) - I will have to check that after testing driving all.
